Queens Museum
This afternoon, the Junior cohorts went on a journey to visit the Queens Museum. Here, they visited the Mundos Alternos: Art and Science Fiction in the Americas, which “ brings together the work of international artists from across Latin America with Latinx artists from throughout the United States” exploring the themes of “science fiction’s capacity to imagine new realities, both utopian and dystopian”. While they were here, they also roamed around and saw other exhibitions, like Ever Upward, Ever Afloat, featuring artist Camille Hoffman, whom the scholars have met previously at her artist residency at the Museum of Art and Design. Famous to the Queens Museum, designed and built in time for the 1964 World’s Fair, the scholars were also able to see the Panorama of the City of New York, a 1:1200 scale diorama of the City. They tried their hardest to try to find their own apartments and other key landmarks that resonate with them in the diorama.
