About the DigiMyths Education Program
Individuals who were raised in a culture other than that of their parents and family or their ethnic background, often have a deeply complex sense of who they are and where they belong; i.e. in a place that exists in concept only. Deepened by the impact of COVID-19, this place fades as connecting with family in-person and trips to visit their familial lands become sporadic or inaccessible, and holding on to one’s heritage becomes harder. What is DigiMyths? The initiative emerged out of a desire to support and explore this place as a means of reconnecting with that heritage through contextualizing customs and stories and expanding understanding without geo-physicality.
DigiMyths was a three week program where participants will research mythologies, sketch out potential ideas melding in computer technologies, and actualize their concepts. The class structure will co-work on Wednesdays, convening on Sundays, and Discord throughout the week to share resources showcasing how artists have recontextualized their heritage through digital media.
Participants were either enrolled in a degree-granting arts program, have graduated within the last two years, or stopped their studies due to COVID-19 complications. Participants should have a connection or want to reestablish a lost connection with another place outside of where they reside and are looking for ways to engage with the culture and tradition of that land.
After the program concludes, a public speaker series will follow, along with the publication of a book documenting participants’ work made during this time.
Program Documentation
DigiMyths was held entirely online in accordance with social distancing saftey measures in the Winter of 2021. Below are screenshots of the different workshops, facilitations, and speakers organized for the program. Out of respect to all the participants, speakers and facilitators involved, only titlecards from each of the events will be shown. The only exception to this is for workshops which were facilitated by me.
