Fashion Designer, High School Of Fashion Industries, Brooklyn, NY

America Rios Bravo, or Ame (ah-meh), is a first generation Mexican-American artist born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. She attended the High School Of Fashion Industries where she learned to develop skills such as fashion illustration, sewing, draping and pattern making. Initially she hoped to major in fine arts in high school, but after being rejected from the major, she didn’t let it stop her from pursuing fine art. This set back gave her the courage to continue building her skills. While majoring in fashion design, she explored many mediums and became a self-taught artist. America’s work includes charcoal, colored pencils, markers, and textiles. Often her work is inspired by street style culture, architecture, social/political issues and related ideologies. Her work has been showcased at the Parsons School of Design Pre-College Academy Open Studios and the High School of Fashion Industries gallery and window displays. As a growing artist she looks forward to establishing a career as a fashion designer and entrepreneur, all while becoming more proficient in fine arts and exploring representational art.
