My Queens
By John Edwards
Acrylic on canvas
2020
My project is composed of two acrylic paintings, with the subjects being my mother and older sister; I have never been without them. Although none of us come from money and lavishness isn’t necessarily our first priority, those two are nothing less than royalty. Having a pair of queens to live by and look up to has shaped me into a finer person than I would have been otherwise. I chose to depict this even within the shape of my canvases, where the classic oval shape exudes a sort of classical portraiture feel. This is also represented through the very use of paint, where portraits of yesteryear were exclusive to that of kings and queens.
